THE Johor government has allocated RM300,000 for the Pasir Gudang City Council (MBPG) to upgrade the FT17 Pasir Gudang Highway and the FT35 Johor Baru East Coast Highway (Coastal Road).
Pasir Gudang mayor Datuk Asman Shah Abd Rahman said upgrading works would take about three months, starting second week of July.
“The upgrading works will be conducted together with the Public Works Department, where they will deploy two of their assets from Kuala Lumpur to help with the project.
“Although the potholes on the roads have been repaired, there is still stagnant water.
“We want road users to feel safe when passing through,” he said when contacted.
Asman Shah added that he had personally invited Johor Mentri Besar Datuk Onn Hafiz Ghazi to look over the progress of the project and the upgrading works that needed to be done.
“Datuk Onn Hafiz has also agreed that we should improve these roads.
“Besides FT17 and FT35, we will also look into the quality of Jalan Kong Kong and Jalan Masai using the same allocation given by the Johor government.”
In an unrelated matter, Asman Shah said the city council has introduced the Rumah Transit Pasir Gudang, which is located in Block 52, Rumah Pangsa Taman Air Biru.
“We have prepared 10 units to be used as a temporary shelter, especially for those whose homes are damaged in natural disasters.
“They will be allowed to stay at these units for three months or until their house repairs are completed,” he said, adding that they would only need to pay RM225 per month as rent.
All water and electricity bills will be covered by MBPG, he said, adding that each house was equipped with basic necessities such as bed, stove with gas supply and refrigerator.
Those in need of aid are encouraged to apply through Yayasan Pasir Gudang.
Foundation chairman Baharudin Mohamed Taib said the idea of introducing Rumah Transit Pasir Gudang came after receiving reports about families whose homes in Taman Desa Rakyat Perdana were destroyed during a thunderstorm in April this year.
“They did not have anywhere else to go. They could not rent another house as they would need to pay a deposit even though they only wanted to stay temporarily.
“At the same time, the repair works would take about four months, so we decided to place them here while waiting.”
There are now three families on the block, he added.
