Jakarta (ANTARA) – Indonesia and Malaysia concluded their coordinated naval patrols in the Malacca Strait on Thursday, strengthening maritime security and bilateral military ties, the Indonesian Navy said.
The ceremony marking the end of the 2025 Malaysia-Indonesia (Malindo) patrols was held at the Headquarters of Koarmada (Fleet Command) I in Medan, North Sumatra.
Indonesian Navy Commander of the Fleet Command (Pangkoarmada) Admiral Denih Hendrata received Malaysian Royal Navy Western Fleet Commander Admiral Dato’ Baharudin bin Wan Md Nor.
In a statement released on Friday, Denih described the Malindo patrols as “a strategic cooperation between our navies to maintain stability and security in the Malacca Strait.”
The 2025 Malindo operation included four patrol sessions, during which the Indonesian Navy deployed warships to monitor the maritime border.
“The areas patrolled by TNI AL and the Royal Malaysian Navy remained safe and secure throughout the operation,” Denih said.
Beyond enhancing maritime security, the joint patrols aimed to strengthen military relations between Indonesia and Malaysia.
Denih emphasized that such cooperation helps Indonesia safeguard its sovereignty in Southeast Asian waters while fostering closer bilateral ties.
“The Malindo patrols demonstrate our commitment to regional stability and the effectiveness of coordinated naval efforts between our countries,” he added.
The Malacca Strait is one of the world’s busiest shipping lanes, making coordinated surveillance and security operations vital for regional trade and maritime safety.
Both navies have highlighted that regular joint patrols not only deter illegal activities but also build trust and operational familiarity between the two forces.
Denih said the success of the 2025 patrols lays the groundwork for future cooperation, with both countries expected to continue joint maritime operations in the years ahead.
ANTARA noted that the two countries have repeatedly conducted coordinated patrols. In 2024, these took place from November 16 to 30.
Last year, the Indonesian Navy deployed two fast patrol ships from Fleet Command I, KRI Torani-860 and KRI Bubara-868, while the Royal Malaysian Navy sent two warships, KD Laksamana Muhammad Amin-136 and KD Mahamiru-11.
