PETALING JAYA: The Malaysian International Chamber of Commerce and Industry (MICCI) has inked a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the Transported Asset Protection Association (Tapa) Asia-Pacific to collaborate and provide value to manufacturers, brand owners and logistics service providers in Malaysia.
In a statement, MICCI, a trade association representing over 1,000 international corporate members, said the partnership aimed to share best practices, globally recognised industry standards and certifications that help reduce losses in supply chains.
“This collaboration is committed to engaging industry stakeholders and leaders through seminars and specific training programmes focused on upskilling and reskilling talents, which is the need of the hour,” the chamber of commerce, whose history traces back to 1837, noted.
Furthermore, the MoU will allow both associations to share intelligence and incident data, work with law enforcement agencies to address logistics-related issues, combat illicit trade and counterfeiting and prevent future incidents that could cause losses to businesses’ supply chains and the economy.
The MoU is expected to bring benefits such as safeguarding operations, enhancing reputation, fostering trust and securing the supply chain’s success.
“The nation needs such active engagements which immensely benefit and protect business operations, maintain a positive reputation, build customer trust and ultimately ensure the long-term success of the supply chain ecosystem,” the statement said.
MICCI believes the MoU, signed by its vice-president Renuka Indrarajah and Tapa Asia-Pacific treasurer and board director Sangar Kandasamy, would transcend boundaries to achieve the shared goals for the industry, talent, skills, economy and the nation’s welfare.
Tapa, a non-profit industry-driven association, was set up in 1997 to address the losses occurring in the supply chain.
Tapa is a unique forum that unites global manufacturers, logistics providers, freight carriers, law enforcement agencies and other stakeholders with the common aim of reducing losses from the international supply chain.
Tapa members that are involved in the certification scheme include freight forwarders, logistics parks, cargo transporters, air, sea and road transporters, cargo storage and warehousing facilities, and clearing and forwarding services.
