Operations will begin in phases, starting with the Rantau Panjang entry point from 1 January 2025.

As part of efforts to improve border control, the Malaysian Checkpoints and Border Agency (AKPS) will assume control of the country’s five entry points starting 1 February 2025.

The takeover of operations will begin in phases, beginning with the Rantau Panjang entry point from 1 January 2025. This will be followed by the four remaining gateways on 1 February, namely:

  • KLIA 1
  • KLIA 2 (including Cargo Complex)
  • The Sultan Iskandar Building ICQS (including JB Sentral)
  • Tanjung Pelepas Port and Bukit Kayu Hitam ICQS

Minister Of Home Affairs Saifuddin Nasution Ismail has further explained that the justification for choosing the five gateways is based on the different demographic and risk characteristics of these sea and land gateways.

“This Phase One operation is important to allow the agency to make analysis and improvements before implementing the next phase.”

In terms of administration, this acquisition of assets hopes to resolve human resource, asset, and financial issues.

As the newest agency of the Ministry of Home Affairs, the AKPS currently employs 78 staff members and hopes to expand to 13,420 with the upcoming changes.
