SELECTED high-tech industries such as life sciences, food and beverage, electrical and electronics, transport equipment and machinery will be able to offer higher-paying jobs.
Selangor investment, trade and mobility committee chairman Ng Sze Han (pic) said this was the goal of the state government when attracting the said industries through initiatives such as the Selangor International Business Summit (SIBS).
“Through the annual Selangor Mega Job Fairs, such job opportunities are made available to the public, not just for Selangor residents,” he said in reply to Datuk Dr Ahmad Yunus Hairi’s (PN-Sijangkang) question on job opportunities.
Ng said investment in service industries like logistics and digital investment including global business service, data centers and creative content technology had also been identified to have potential for further growth in Selangor.
“To ensure that the sealed investments are successfully realised, the state government through Invest Selangor maintains close communication with investors to assist them in their affairs.
“Monthly project coordination meetings chaired by myself are held to help coordinate the approval processes needed by investors, as well as to resolve any issues.
“These coordination meetings, involving relevant technical departments, allow for the acceleration of the required processes and ensure that the proposed investment projects can be realised within the set timeframe,” he said.
This year’s SIBS achieved its highest potential negotiated sales of RM6.12bil, compared to RM1.45bil in 2022.
A total of 34 memoranda of understanding (MOUs) were signed across various industry sub-sectors.
SIBS attracted 57,249 visitors from 83 countries and hosted 339 trade buyers, 11 supermarket buyers and two pharmacy buyers.
It was held from Oct 19 to 22 at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre.
